Cellulose or fiberglass — which is better?+
Both work. Cellulose is slightly higher R-value per inch (~3.7 vs ~2.5), denser, and made from recycled paper. Fiberglass is lighter, won't settle as much over time, and is non-flammable without additives. For most QC attic top-ups we recommend cellulose; for walls we always use dense-pack cellulose.
How much does blown-in insulation cost?+
Most attic top-up jobs run $1,200–$3,500 depending on square footage and target R-value. Dense-pack wall jobs run $3-$5 per sq ft of wall area.
Will blown-in settle over time?+
Cellulose settles roughly 10-15% in the first year, which is why we install to the target final density and leave depth markers so future homeowners can verify. Fiberglass settles less but loses some performance in cold weather due to air convection.
Can you blow insulation into existing walls without tearing them apart?+
Yes. We drill 2-inch holes either from the exterior (between siding courses) or the interior (between studs near the top of each cavity), dense-pack the cavity, and patch. It's the cleanest way to insulate an older home's walls.
